Wow, my first official post on our new, beautiful blog! Let’s officially meet. I’m Stephanie and I’m 22. I’m currently an Accounting student at UCF. I grew up in a Christian home, but decided when I was 13 that I was going to commit my life to God. It’s nice to meet you.
Our website is called We Are Poiema or Poiema for short. I discovered that word reading a book called A Million Little Ways by Emily Freeman. My kind friend, Hayley, gave this to me and it’s an amazing book. I recommend it for anyone who wants to find out what they were created to do and what is your passion in life.
In Genesis 1, God created man and woman and said, “Be fruitful and multiply. Fill the earth and govern it.” And in Ephesians 2:10 we are reminded that we have a job to do… “For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.”
The word Poiema stood out to me so much and let me explain why. Poiema is a Greek word meaning workmanship or something made. And if that word looks familiar, it’s because the English word poem is derived from poiema. Since we are God’s masterpiece and he created us… we are HIS poiema! And I love being this wonderful poiema made by a creator who has unfailing love. It’s a beautiful word and I fell in love with it the moment I read about it. I never thought a word would bring me so much comfort, but it’s meaning resonates deep within me.
And that is how our blog We Are Poiema was born. Emily talked about starting a blog and I approached her with my idea and she happily joined. We hope our teamwork and joint efforts can bring you something that you enjoy reading. Keep checking back and don’t be afraid to leave comments! We look forward to hearing from y’all.
